Why mine-of-origin matters more than you think

The Kimberley Process was a landmark in the diamond trade — a globally agreed floor beneath which no stone should trade.

But a floor is not a ceiling. A Kimberley certificate confirms that a diamond is not funding conflict; it says nothing about the labour standards at the mine, the ecological cost of extraction, or the truth of the country of origin claimed on the paperwork.

At SALVEGATE we require mine-of-origin traceability for every coloured stone, and for every diamond above 0.5 carats.
