The anatomy of a bespoke commission

There is a myth that bespoke jewelry is romantic and imprecise — a whisper of an idea handed to a wizard who returns weeks later with something transcendent.

In practice, a great commission is engineered. Eleven stages, each with a budgeted duration, each with an accountable maker, each documented as if it were a patent filing.

In this piece I want to walk you through what we do between the moment your design is approved and the moment your production number closes. We call this the anatomy of a commission.

Stage one is the CAD study. Our design director sits with the client's brief and the atelier's constraints — the physics of the setting, the tolerances of the stone — and produces a photorealistic model within two days.

By the time you receive your first render, we already know exactly how the piece will be manufactured. That is what enables us to publish a countdown, and stand behind it.
